I was born in Los Angeles, California on September 29th, 1974. Since the age of three, I've been fascinated and captured by the visual arts and could draw before I could talk. My first really good drawing was of Mickey Mouse. I did it at the dinner table after my parents made me sit there half the night for not eating my peas. I frickin' hated peas, I still do. Throughout my school years, I maintained a large aptitude for the visual arts. At age fourteen I was selected to take part in a Los Angeles citywide high school student art program called the Herbert D. Rhyman Living Masters Program. Only a few students are selected each year to participate. I spent three years in this program and learned collegiate level academic fine art techniques and theories. I credit this program with inspiring an inner drive and confidence that led to my working as a professional artist in the computer-game industry. I have been working in the computer-game industry as a conceptual artist and illustrator for nine years. I have done production artwork for highly successful game titles such as MechWarrior 4, The Mark of Kri, Halo, and Halo 2. |
I am the best artist in the whole damn world. No one can touch me, no one inspires me. My genius is my own. Just kidding, I am greatly influenced by not only the world around me, but by the many talented artists in the world today and yesterday. I am a huge fan of Jean-Leon Gerome. My favorite living artists are Syd Mead, also Ralph McQuarrie, and Joe Johnston who in my opinion practically invented concept art used in entertainment production. To me, these guys are the godfathers of today’s concept art community and are the reason I do what I do. And in addition to them, I’m also greatly inspired by several other leading artists in the game and film industry, artists like Stephan Martiniere, Doug Chiang, Jay Shuster, Feng Zhu, Ryan Church, and Craig Mullins. To be an artist is a life experience like no other and is the reason why my world turns and why my heart thumps. I can’t imagine life any other way. For me, artistic expression is the soul of mankind’s existence and the key to mankind’s survival. Without art, we are nothing more than death in due time, and life without true purpose.
